Vancouver…

I’ve been here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for about a week and half.  I cannot emphasize enough that I’m living across the border, not in Washington state!  Instead of prattling about boring and mundane facts of life, I’ll instead put down several things I learned about Vancouver and Canadians since I arrived here.

-Tilism (noun): Selective language used among people who work with tiles and experience the back-breaking labours of placing down tiles and making sure it doesn’t look lopsided.  See also: groutism and contractism.

-Sarahism (noun): Idioms that were created by and applies to Sarah Anne Hrycenko alone.  Examples are such as “I think I should be an actor… but I hate the audience.”  Or, “How did the dogs’ ears end up pointy?  Did they have it taped up and around to create that shape?” Generally, Sarahisms are hilarious and unintentional.  Any intentional attempt on hilarity and confusion is not a Sarahism, it is an example of stupidity.

-BCDeafism (noun): The deaf community in the province of BC, could be found in Vancouver and the surrounding towns, including the profoundly deaf signing members to cochlear-implanted/oral deaf persons, and some hearing individuals could be detected.  They are an interesting crowd of people, inclined to gossip and mischief like any other deaf community.

-Deaf or Hearing? (rhetorical): The most asked question by the deaf towards a visitor.  It is a rhetorical because eventually it does not matter, except when you need to fart and knowing there is no hearing people in vicinity helps a little.

-Bridge tolls (noun):  Non-existent in Vancouver, despite the sixteen bridges that could be driven or trekked on.

- How cold is it? (Meg’s frequent query):  Vancouver might be sunny but freezing or cloudy but warm.  Confusion continues until the person in question bodily removes herself from the warm cocoon of her bed or flat and ventures outside for a temperature check.  Celsius is another matter.

That’s about it.
