Welcome!
This is spanking new- brand new experience of blogging, website, and everything else related to internet and information. We are here in the latest Age of Information and it is a crime not to join the bandwagon. I just started blogging few weeks ago, by the courtesy of a friendly persuasion from a friend and set up a blog on www.tumblr.com. Unfortunately, the blog site was simple, and the potential was limited (no comments allowed and so forth). With assistance of a website genius friend I have (plenty of friends with their individual talents makes my world go round!), Jane and I put our heads together and formulated this new concept that has been brewing around back of my cranium. Actually, I was the one who held the debit card to pay for the website and server while Jane expertly clacked her fingers on keys and pointed the mouse in right direction.
Now, here we are, with www.malzed.com and my own blog. I’ll add my sister to the site because along with me, she is a genius in her own right, and in the long run I hope to add everyone in my family to the site. I want to peddle my hobbies right there on the net and enjoy working while staying home or at a coffee shop. My ultimate dream was to be a freelancer, when I first learned the word and understood the concept, back in high school when everyone was telling me to get a degree and a career.
I have a Bachelors degree. I suffered through the years in high school just to end up at a college without any idea what to do. Never the one to shirk from unexpected and adventures, I continued with my higher education until last May when I walked off the stage to the thunderous applause of my family and friends for completing my college education that has been paid by the state of California.
Now what? I have a degree but getting paid entry-level wages working at a dog day care. That is a dead end to me- because I’ll be dependent on the income by the hours I log in. A blessing in disguise came to me when I returned to Planet Pooch after about eight-month hiatus. I was in school completing my last semester, then went off to Europe for two months, and came back to Washington DC to move back to California. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was hovering at the horizon, silently and firmly beckoning me to explore its gorgeous glass-topped buildings and snow-encrusted mountains. But, first, I have to settle in with my mom and work for a bit, to save up money for that dream. So, working at Planet Pooch, I discovered my long-forgotten talents and knowledge in graphic design. My boss kept giving my assignments fitting to my degree in Communication Studies, supplemented by my ability to do more than just cropping and pasting pictures.
Why Vancouver? For the LAST time, I’m not going to Washington state! I’m going across the border, legally, to live in Vancouver, a city nestled between the sea and mountains. There, I hope I’ll finally discover what I really need to do and what I want to do. It is not a vision quest Native Americans send their teens to, but a life quest: to know what I want without people telling me what I should do.
I love to write, make pretty designs, take photography, and read tons of books. Dogs come in the picture too but that’s for another blog. In Vancouver, it is an escape from my life that has been set up for me since I was born, and entering a new chapter where I’ll dictate what happens next.
Sounds good? I know it does!
